LEED for Homes

LEED for Homes is a U.S. Green Building Council rating and certification program created to encourage sustainable and green home building. As defined on the USGBC website, “LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures.” A LEED certified home is not just good for the environment; benefits for the homeowner include lowering monthly utility bills and increasing the value of the home.

This program mandates a comprehensive list of standards that the builder, designer and homeowner must meet. This ensures that any home that receives LEED qualifications is not only constructed and accessorized according to green standards, but that the home will reduce the overall impact on the environment by using fewer natural resources and creating less waste than a home built using traditional methods of construction. More information can be found on the U.S. Green Building Council’s website.
